Cross-Country Skiing in Yellowstone National Park

Yellowstone National Park offers miles of picturesque cross-country ski trails that glide through frosty woods, snow-cloaked meadows, or within sight of a wandering bison. Yellowstone’s status as a mecca for winter recreation cannot be overstated, as it features groomed, ungroomed, and skier-tracked trails. With over 100 miles of trails in the Old Faithful Area and 50 miles of trails in the Mammoth Hot Spring area, both locations can easily satisfy the backcountry, classic skier, or skate skier.

We offer group and private ski lessons for first-timers or anyone looking to refresh or improve their skills. The Bear Den Ski Shops at Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel and Old Faithful Snow Lodge have everything you need for a day of gliding through the snow, including rentals, lessons, tours, trail info, and skier shuttles.

Take a Guided Ski Tour

We offer full-day and half-day guided cross-country ski tours from Mammoth Hot Springs and Old Faithful Snow Lodge.  Our experienced guides will take you on a journey through the winter wonderland of Yellowstone National Park. Our tours are designed to not only showcase the beauty of the park, but also educate visitors about its ecology and history. You’ll learn about the geothermal features that make Yellowstone so famous, as well as the diverse wildlife that call it home.

Basic Nordic skiing skills are required for all guided ski tours. If you are new to cross-country skiing, we recommend taking a lesson from the Bear Den Ski Shop.

The Tower Ski Tour offers a half-day afternoon guided adventure through Yellowstone's wildlife-packed Blacktail Plateau area.
