Opening its doors for the first time for the 1891 summer season, today no hotel has stood in any national park longer than the Lake Yellowstone Hotel. But today’s hotel bears little resemblance to the one that greeted those original guests, who arrived by stagecoach (and steamship!) here. Three influences – administrators, concessioners, and visitors – have brought about the extensive changes to the structure through the decades. If you’d like to learn more about the history, the hardships, and the idiosyncrasies of the Grand Old Lady of the Lake, come along with our guide on the evening walking tour of Lake Hotel.
